How to treat dry skin - 3 Dos and Don'ts

I have extremely dry skin and over a period of time I learnt a lot on how to protect and nourish my skin and also prevent it from dryness. I would like to share my experiences with you and if you have a dry skin try these and let me know whether it helped you as well.

To Do
  • Drink plenty of water- This is something that is not going to harm anyone in any way. The more you drink water the better your skin is. I was a person consuming hardly 2 glasses of water everyday but now I easily consume 2 ltrs/day and this has helped me a lot in getting rid of dryness. My skin used to be so dry that I never wish to expose my legs. After increasing the fluid levels in my diet, it worked like a magic and now I don't hesitate to flaunt my shiny legs. If you are not used to drinking heaps of water then start from 4 glass/day and slowly increase as much as you can.
  • Exfoliate- If your skin is prone to dryness for a long period of time, don't worry, still you have time to fix it up. Make sure you exfoliate to remove all the dead and dried skin. I use a scrub every alternate day and that helped me as well. I use Everyuth Apricot and Walnut scrub. I have also heard that St.Ives scrubs are really good.
    • Moisturize - This is a main step in making our skin glow. I try both natural ones and use the ones available in shop. Every night I just apply coconut oil and foot cream before going to bed. If the skin's condition is really bad I lock the moisture by wearing socks and the next day morning the skin looks completely young and supple. Also it is necessary to apply moisturizer everyday morning and rub it nicely on the skin so that the skin can absorb it. When the skin is little wet after the shower I apply the moisturizer so it gets easily absorbed.

        Not To Do
        • No Bare Skin - It is always better to avoid bare skin exposure to sun, heat and really dry climatic conditions.During unavoidable situation it is essential to have a proper sunscreen applied on the skin that will be exposed to direct sunlight. Even if I am in a hurry I will make sure I do this as exposing bare skin shows bad effects on my skin.

        • No Strong Cleansers - I always make sure my cleansers are mild and natural. I mostly avoid soaps, even otherwise I go for all natural or herbal brands for my skin. Worst case one can use baby soaps that are really mild and good for the skin.
          • No Hot Water Bath - Taking bath in hot water should be avoided if one's skin is suffering from dryness. Luke warm water can be used during winters and it is always better to have a bath or shower in water that is in room temperature.
