Shopping Tips 2 - How to buy Cosmetics and Skin Care?

Being a shopaholic I thought it would be helpful for a few of you [even if not all] if I do this 'Shopping Tips' series. Every time I do huge shopping I learn something new because of the time and money I spend for shopping. I always wanted to do a post and share my experiences with you and today I got a chance to do the same. I am just sharing my experiences here and what I learnt from my experiences, your views might not match with mine nor I expect you to agree with what I say - Though I'll be glad if you do ;)

Spend Quality Time

Whenever you go shopping, especially while buying products like foundation and compacts, spend enough time at the counters before you decide on what to buy. Also since these products are going to stay in your vanity for a long time [also something that is very important in your make up] I think it is necessary to try many brands and different shades until you get the right one for you. So make sure you take ample time and do not decide some thing in a hurry and then regret.

Choose the Right One for YOU

It is always good to take others suggestions but you must know what you want and what would suit you better. People rave about MAC Cosmo and Painterly Paint Pot and I know so many who bought both and then felt bad that it didn't suit them well ! Each one of us have different skin types, tones and more than anything different needs. So don't end up buying things which won't suit you and which you might not use but bought them just because so many others love it !

Read Reviews

As I said already it is always good to take suggestions and read reviews. With so many lovely make up and beauty bloggers in our country, your knowledge about a product quality and availability is just a click away. If not for the shade, at least for the over all quality do check out a couple of reviews from your favorite bloggers and gurus before you decide upon something. I always do that and trust me it does save a lot of money. If you see my reviews, hardly will you see a product that was a total flop for me because I make sure to see detailed reviews mostly before I go for shopping.

Try, Test & Ask for Samples

If you are not too sure about a particular product do ask for samples. Especially foundations [and skin care too] which is going to form a base for all your other make up. I usually ask the SA to apply foundation on me and I roam around trying other products at least for 30 mins to see how well it stays/works on me. If I don't have the time I do not hesitate to ask for a sample. Though all the drug store brands do not provide any samples, you can ask for them from all high end brands like Chanel, Estee Lauder and skin care samples from Clinique, Clarins, Shiseido and so on.

Do Not Encourage Pushy SAs

Never ever ever buy a product just because the SA is very pushy. My cousin got a wrong foundation shade from an high-end brand just because the MUA forced her saying he knows about make up better !! In spite of my cousin's doubts the MUAs attitude took over her doubts and she was left with no choice. Either be polite and just walk past them or put it straight on their face that you don't want to spend your money on something that you really don't like. You tell them once and they would never forget you nor repeat the same kind of behavior again. I usually try telling the SAs politely that I don't need the product and if they force me to buy it I would never buy anything from their store/stall again.

Hope these tips helps you. Do share if you have any points to add to this list.

Happy Shopping :)

    1. Glad you liked it Surbhi :) Ya it is good to buy then but every time you buy a product make sure the products are sealed totally and check the expiry date too- that ensures they are brand new.

    1. It is always wise to use the lipsticks or just any cosmetics within the expiry period. For lipsticks it is approximately 2 yrs I guess.
