"It is all about inches and not weight as you grow old."
I want you to remember the above lines throughout this post as I realised the fact very late ! I started gaining weight during my pregnancy and from 62 Kgs [ideal weight for my height] I went up to 72 Kgs, which was not too much as per my Doctor's advice. Soon after the delivery I lost half of it and came down to 67, this gave me some over-confidence that I assumed losing the pregnancy weight was not really difficult. So I never actually worked out to burn the extra calories. Only after an year, during my daughter's first birthday I realised that I am still 67 kgs ! This bothered me a lot and I had no other choice but to start my regular workout session.
|How Did I Fit Into My Old Jeans - OOTD|
Sorry for the bathroom selfie, will try taking better pics next time :P If you are following me in Instagram @aarthi_shopaholic, you would have seen the pic long back.
I was a fitness freak before marriage and managed a healthy and fit body until then. Once I got married, change in place and added responsibility hardly gave me some time for a work out. I did try working out at home but that didn't last long. I skipped my lunch but that didn't bring any difference too, in fact that was another reason for me not losing my weight. Only recently I started my normal 3 meal/day routine and I felt my weight was much under control. It was only 2 years after the delivery, I started my work out routine in a slow pace. We have a gym within our gated community and I started working out there. Once I started workouts I controlled my food a lot too. Whenever I took some junk into my mouth I felt so guilty as all the hard work at the gym got wasted.
Again I was not too regular with my gym and there was a break once the little one started schooling. Our entire life started a couple of hours early than it used to be before and so there was a break again. It has been 6 months since I stopped workouts but still I was in my '67' and the main reason was I still had a healthy diet.
I always make myself a new schedule to start workout and this New Year my first resolution was to work out regularly. Meanwhile I was randomly trying out my old jeans and to my shock I easily fit into my old jeans ! My happiness knew no bounds ! My weight was still the same but how did this happen? I had a discussion with my gym-mates and they say it is all about ageing and beyond a stage it just stops there !
So can I never go back to my 50s?
You can, you just have to work more hard - told my friends. I still have my tummy flab and that is all I have to reduce now according to hubby. I am not seeing the numbers in the weighing scale anymore but just going to keep a record of my inches !
In brief, regular workout in a normal pace [don't do too much and hurt yourself] along with a watch over what goes into your tummy is all that is going to help you out. You need not actually go to any slimming centres if you have a balanced work out along with a healthy meal. Don't think it is too late as I got into my old jeans after 3 whole years, when I had almost given up.
While trying to lose weight what not to do is more important than what to do, so here is the list.
What not to do while trying to lose weight?
- Don't work out and over eat - you are going to gain more weight !!
- Don't work out and skip meals - you will go weak, you won't be able to continue the work out routine and to top it all you won't lose any weight rather you will end up over eating the next meal.
- Don't skip your workout routines.
- Don't starve.
- Don't see the kgs beyond a age but look at only the inches.
- Never give up.
